Sunflower
An oilseed crop grown on our own farms and with out-growers.
We have generally farmed sunflower on a small scale, since buyers are fewer and use it mainly for oil production. Some buyers, such as Mukwano Industries, offer a minimum price guarantee for grain grown from their hybrid seed.
Our farms produce an average of 1,000 tons of sunflower a year, and we buy a further 2,000 tons from out-growers in Masindi and Oyam districts.
For the next few seasons, sunflower will continue to be grown on short-term leased land.
