Soya Bean
A high-protein crop that thrives in Northern Uganda.
Soya bean grows best in the northern parts of Uganda, where national production is estimated at 30,000 tons a year. It is mainly processed into soy cake for animal feed, and soy oil and flour for people.
With protein content of 25–45%, soya bean is ideal for blending with low-protein foods such as grain, to make affordable, high-protein animal feed and food products.
We produce an average of 2,000–3,000 tons of soya bean a year across two seasons. The average market price in recent years has been 1,500 Uganda shillings per kilo.
